PALMERSTON N., This Day. A fortunate discovery by a Uurse who had occasion to go outside the Duilding prevented a serious and pOrhaps tragic firo at Awapuni DJd People 's Home about six o'clock this morning. The outbreak occurred in the roof of the corridor. The flames had a good hold when it was discovered, yet no-one inside the Duilding was uware of the outbreak. The brigade made a good save. Meanwhile the matron and staff acted with commendable calmness and prepared for extreme emergency which, Ixowever, was prevented. lt is believed that the fire originated in the heatmg system. s .
