Tobacco has no stauncher friend than General Persking, the famous Aniericnn soldier who played a conspicuous part in the World War. As Commandor-in-Chref of the Amorican Expeditionary Fbrce, so convinced was Iie of tlie great value of tobacco in holping to malntaiu the morale of ]us trpops that he cabled to Washington s'oon after his arrival on the scene of the conflict:,* "Tobacco i3" as indispcnsable as the daily ratiou. Send further heavy consignments at once." Yet the enemies of the weed deelare it has not one redeeming feature and that indulgence iu it is a vice! However, this view is last dying out. To-day, fully 90 per cent of the population of the world are smokers and in no part oi' the world is tobacco more \alued and appreciated than in New Zealand where our famous toasted blends, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulidog), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold have made a reputatiorr that grows greater every year. No finer, more fragfant, or less harmful tobaecos than these are before the public.*
