PACIFIC SHIPPING
Rumoured Talks Between Rival Firms SHARING THE TRAFFIC (Received 20, 1 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, July 19. It is rumoured on the waterfront that the Matson Line is negotiating with Canadian shipping interests for the demarcation of spheres of Pacifie traffic. It is believed that they may arrange a common call at Tahiti in order to anticipate the French lines — installation of a Tahiti-North American service. • It is also believed that plans are being discussed to anticipate possible manoeuvring by Japanese lines whereby the latter may obtain some Hawaiian-United States traffic by carrying passengers from Honolulu to Lower California, which is Mexican, and is not far from Los Angeles. Efforts to confirm these rumours are unavailing, as officials of the lines eoncerned will say nothing.
