THEATRE FOR NAPIER
Council Decides to Call Tenders SEATING FOR 1154 PEOPLE Tenders axe now to be called for the ereetion of a new and up-to-date theatre in Napier. This deeision was made at a special meeting last week of the Napier Borough Council, which decided to go on with the work. To accommodate 1154 persons, the new building will be of an attractive design and in accordance with the most modern methods of theatre coastruction. Special eonsideration has been given in the designs to tho pfovision of adequate seating aecomxnolacioxu The rows of seats will be arranged across the floor in the shape - of a crescent, so that eack seat directly faces thu ccntre of the stage. Travelling theatre companirs will diseover tliat tho new building gives ample opportnnxty for the production of elaborate shows. The prosceniupx will he 35 f eet dcep, an increase of five feet on the design of the old buiidiug destroyed by the earthquake., and -20 feet high. The stage will be 70 feet wide and 35 feet deep with a scenery doek on one side so eonstrueted that ,it will be possibie for motoi* lorries to. drive right into the building to di.--charge scenery. Fn the opposite ride of'the stage will be erected two storcys of dressing rooins. Their constrnction will follow technieal advice received from J, O. Williamson 's, Ltd. Scenery movements will be direeted from a tower 60 feet above the level of the pavement and 51 feet above the stage. The tower will provide for tho quick and effieient changing of scenery and fcrr the ;accommoda».ion of additional scenic gear.
