Te Mata Park

. . RAMBLER.

Six, — I notice the board of control of the Te Mata Eark purpose Bpending £920 upon .road, construction from the present terminus to the trig station. Now, Sir, is thie necessary! It seems to be entirely needless and a waste of public money. Surely motorists wishing to do so could complete the journey on foot, aa it is quite an easy climb and the exercise would do them good. > To blast a road to the top means putting a nasty scar upon the landscape as viewed from Hastings which will be an cyesore for all time. Then, also, the spodl will be rolled down dnto the gttlly as has already been done which,' to say.the least of it, has been left in a.very untidy mess. Far better to leave things as they are and put the money to better use. As. a frequent tramper to the Peak for the past twenty years or more I appreciate what has been done, but it will take thousands of pounds before Te Mata can 'be called a park. At present to get-'to the top through the only. bit of native bush left one has to climb through' barbed-wire fences and over five-barred gates with all the attendant risks. A few stiles would not cost much and would be appreciated by those who stdll enjoy the healthy exercise of a climb. I trust tho board will further consider this matter before embarking upon such an expensive scheme. — Yours. etc..
