Five Per Cent. Increase in Wages

r W'EtLfi^GTON, Laet Night. Aftjr a five days hearing in the Conciliation CouUcil a complete agreement was reached on Saturday in the licensed hotels employees' dispute before Mr. 8. Richie, conciliation commissioner. Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, secretaiy of the Wellington Employers' Association, wsls agent for ihe employers and Mr. F. G. Young for thd Workers. It was deCided that the hourfe qf work be 40 a week to be worked within five and a-half days in each week. Ovettime is to be paid for at one and a-quaf-ter times ordinary rates for the firSt four hours and twice the ordiiiary Tate thereafter. The usual statutory holidays are to be observed and overtime is to be paid for work on those dayb. Provision was made for nine days' holiday annually on full pay on cbmpletioh of 12 months' service. In the country districts the usual weekly holidays can be accumnlated over a period of three months. The scale of wages agfeed upbn. Was the same as the 1936 award rates, pltis five per ueiit. exeept in the case of kitehehmen whose wage was increased to £2 15s a Week plus bbard ahd Ibdging. The rates for casttal workers Were increased five p&r cent. on the 1936 award and for workers eniployed on apeeial oeeasions the incrdase has been more than five per cent. in sorne caSes. The new award as far as wage alterations are concerned comes into foree on August l, 1937, and has a dtiratidn of oue year. The other pfovisions are to come into forco as soon as the award has been made by the Court.
