METHODIST LADIES' GUILD HOLD MONTHLY MEETING

The monthiy meeting oi the Methodist Ladies' Guild, heid in the girls' room, was well attended. The Rev. 14. B. Gosnell presided over the devotional part of the meeting, after wliich Mrs P.. Loach occupied the chair, and welcomed the speakers for the afternoon, Adjutant Lamberton and Commandant Feltham, of the Salvation Army. (Jn behalf of the Guild the visitors were presented with sprays of spring flowers. The Adjutant took as lier subject "The Power of a Woman's Tongue," basing lier remarks on the woids in Proverbs, "She openeth her mouth in wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness," and the Commandant spoke on the visit to New Zealand of the late General Booth's daughter, Katie, who is known as La Marecliale. She told how all her life she had planned to hear this wonderfuj woman speaker and singer, and how she had been able to hear her while in Wellington. The deep impression made on all who heard her — her outstanding personality and her compassionate voice — had greatly impressed the commandant, who, with the Adjutant, sang one of La Marechale's choruses. Mrs Loach thanked the visitors for their interesting addresses and also the hostesses, Mescfames Farmery, Smitli and Begton, who handed round a very acceptable cup of tea.
