HUGE BOAR SHOT

Veteran Monster of Hills A boar measuring 6ft 2in from snout to the top of its tail was shot by Messrs R. Ward and Evans, Matemateonga, in the back-country of Taranaki, after an hour's chase recently. The capture was too heavy for the two men to lift and tho snout measured 4in. across. The Hunters were accompanied by five dogs, which started' the chase in rough counti'y. The boar worked into a gorge and the dogs held liim until' Mr Ward got close enough to dispatck him with a bullet. Although the animals tusks were not extraordinary, being 2xn long, the shield was 24in. thick. His ears torh by previous encounters with dogs, the boar was a veteran Tamwortli and he was not feilled wjthout a ffght. During the hnnt one of Mr Ward's dogs was ripped in the throat by his tusks and injured so severely that after receiving attention it had to be carried liome.
