Trials of Equipment on British Troops SPECIAL BOOTS & SUITS

(Received 17, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 16. A demonstration of tbe latest British anti-gas methods was given on Salisbury Plain following many experiments which had produced a dozen inuovations. Infantry in the field, in addition to a respirator, will probably carry six eye*shields which can be discarded when their usefulness has worn off and also a light oilskin cape as a protection against mustard gas fr(jm aircraft, While another will be darried by transport. The infantry' s respirator case inoludes a tin of anti-gSs ointmerlt which, if applied within three minutes, will prevent skiii injurieS. Troops afe alsb to be supplied with tWo pairs of over* botits, which a mile of mardhing Will wear out, in order to avdid contamination in gassed areas. Dispatch riders and signallers will be issued with gasproof jackets and trousers. All unitS will be supplied wifih light and heavy de-contamination suits. The latter, weighing 151bs., were so exhausting to wear that it was found at the deinon* stration that the soldiers could not do more than thr.ee half-hour periods at entrenohing in 24.
