DEATHS IN THE BUSH
Explanation of Australian Peculiarity DISCARDING OF CLOTHES An Uxplanation of why people lost in the Australian bush are invariably found naked was given by Dr. G. M. Scott, of Havelock North, dn a talk at the weekly luncheon of the Hastings Kotary Club yesterday. Dr. Seott explained that he had been told by an Australian bashman tliat the heat of the ground became eo unbearable, and the boots a man was wearing got eo hot.in timo, that to gain relief a man would take off his boots and socks and lie down. When he lay down, however, the rest of the body soon became equally hot, and it was not long before other garments would be gradually discarded, too. "And once you get your clothes off you're done," Dr. Scott 's informant had told hira. One simply lay there and died from the heat and exposure. Dr. Scott entertained members of the club with amusing reminiscencea of his days aa a medical student and other stories told in a humorous vein.
