Conference Discusses Branch Remits WOOL INSTRUCTION

WELLINGTON This Day. The thdr'ty-sixth annual Dominion conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, which opened at Wel-„ lington on Wednesday, euded yesterday. To assist farmers in producixig better wmol and looking after it to the best advantage, it was decided to ask tho Government to appoint competent ofiiI eials to give instruction in the various districts througkout the Dominion, the cost to be taken out of the wool levy fund. The opinion was expressed that the destruetion of ragwort should be made a national affair, . with. a national body in control." . The eonference decided to explore all possible aveiiues with a view to ovorcoming. the shortage of domibtic &cryants. in country areas; The following. remit was , submitted by. Auckland: — "That the union closeiy scrutinise the 'use of the powers taken in the Eeserve Bank Amendment Act, and exert -its, influence .to ensure that credit and currency' shall be put into circulation • to the end that our money shall keep pace with our production and so that producers ..shall not be penalised by rising 'costs." Mr A. O. A. fciextdn (Auckland) said that the object in view . was the prevention 6f botli iiifiation and deflation; The remit was 'referred back to the Auckland executive, cn the motion of Mr W. A.. Sheat (South Taranaki), who contended that it was too vague. It was decided to urge the Government . to put ilito operation a plan whefeby the housing scheme could be extended so as to supply the need for houses for -f arm labofarers and farmers' spns on reasonabla terms and condi .tions. • The Dominion executiye was asked to oppose tho purpose of the Government to establish a mopopoly of the manufacture of motor-tyres in the Dominion . and its intention to irnposo an embargo on this coinmodity. The Dominion executive was also asked to approach the Government for assistance in tho reticulation of electric power in sparsely-populated districts. As a furtker step toward placing the wliole of the burden of roading costn upon the users of the roads, it was decided to urge that the 12£ *per ceiit. rcbate on rural rates, which was ia operation for several years, he reinstated and increased to 25 oer cent, The Government is to be asked to give larger grants for the metalling of backbloeks roads. \
