Meeting of Waipukurau Branch
(From
WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Mr J. !D. Ormond, junr., presided over a fair attendance at the meeting of the Waipukurau brancli of the Farmers' Union held in the Oddfellows' liall. The seeretary read minutes of a meeting of the Hawke's Bay -Provincial executive of the union held in Hastings on Jupe 21 and gave a summary of Ministerial replies to remits sent forward by the union. The New Zealand Co-op. Pig Marketing Association wrote from the Waikato stressing the desirability of control of the grading of pigs in New Zealand being placed in the hands of pig marketing associations. — Mr Ormond said that" the association had put their •proposal before the Minister recentlj' and he had rejected it. A little while ago the Minister had handed the matter ot the grading of pigs over to the Meat Producers' Board, who were employing several expert graders on the work. He thought that the Meat Producers' Board could be relied on to look after the interests of the producers in tho best possible way. Mr Ormond considered that it would help to keep intereat in the brancli if they obtained someone to address members on some matter of interest. Hc suggested that they ask Mr W. Tucker to attend the next meetiug aud give an address on wool. Mr L. M. Monckton suggested that Mr Tucker be asked t0 bring samples of scoured wool and illustrate to members what could be done in this direction, as he ,was sure farmers could save money by learning sometliing about tliis.
