Egyptian Dcfences « CAIEO, June 80. Simce the Teturn of the Prime Minister, Nahas Pasha, from the Inter* national Conference at Montreux which agreed to abolish the capitulations, the defences of Egypt have been greatly speeded np. Special attention has been given to anti-aircraft defences in the Nile Valley, including protection for the irrigation barrages. New armaments, including artillery, are arriving from Britain, and the Air Force is being increased by twe squadrons this year. A miliasy aerodrome may be estaVlished at Alexandria in addition to ma aerodrome at Mersa Matruh (hear the Libyan border), which military advisers snggest should be heavily forttfied with anti-aircraft batteries and eoast defences. Egyptian troops will mamtain the network of trenches dug by the British; two years ago. '
