Elsthorpe Meeting Tbe memb.ers oi' tbe Elsthorpe Women 's lnstitute beld tbeir monthly meeting last week. Mrs. C. Williams presided over a good attendance of members. Tbe Goldon Tbread talk for the montb was given by Mrs. T. Priest, who spoke on Germany, and she wai listened to witb great interest. Miss McHardy gave a talk on Griil Gmdes, an-cl bad on \iew a number of intei'cjring pbotos of New Zealand and otber countries. Both ladies were aecorded: a bearty vote of thanks .for their. most interesting talks. The compet'tions for tbe . afternoon resulted as follow: — Best jug cover, Mrs. 0. Nelson 1, Mrs. J. Bruce 2, Mrs. Watson, senr., 3, Mrs. Watson 4. Tomato sauce, Mrs. C. Nelson 1, Mrs. T. Priest 2( Mrs. Watson, senr., 3. : Best berries and leave's, Mrs. C. Williams 1, Mrs. C. Miller 2, Mrs. Nuttall 3. The annual ball of tlie Elsthorpe Women1 s lnstitute was held in the Viliage Hall on Friday evening. Tbis function, always a very popular one in the district, was well attended, and a very enjoyable time was spent by all, Tbe ball was. suitably decorated witb streamers and balloons. A great nieasure of the success oi tlie evening was due to tbe organiser. Mrs G. Beacben, who worked bard tc ensure tbat pfttrons bad an enjoyable evening. As a result of this function, tbe funds of the local "branch sbould be augmented considerably. Music was provided by Mr Les Henry's orchestra, and extras wert played by Miss J. Cbeer and Messrs Beale and Macaulay. * Messrs N. McGaffin and P. Haydon were efficienl M.O.'s. A dainty supper was provided by tbe members of tbe W.I. . Tbe winners of tbe spot dance were Miss k. Crampton and Mr Couper, and Miss R. McGaffin and Mr R. Stepbenson won tbe Monte Oarlo. Tbe winners of the other competitions were: Cake, Mrs H. Eagle; tobacco, Mr J. Macaulay; chair and cusbion. Mrs T Priest.
