Men on State Housing Contract ARBITRATION COURT DELAY

AUCKLAND This Day. A sfcop-work meetiug lasting half au hour was held by carpenters and builders' general labourers engaged in the eriction of State houses at Orakei this morning. Union officials, representatives of the men and Mr W. J. Lyon, M.P., addressed the meeting, and lOfficials of the contracting firm, the Fletcher Construction Co., heard the men'8 demands. These included a claim for two hours pay in the e^ent of the men reporting for work and being unable to continue through wet. weather. This was later coupled with a request for a 2d an hour all-round inerease in pay. It was pointed out that, owing to the pressure of work, the claims before the Arbitration Court would probably not be completcd until early nest year. The meeting decided to negotiate with Mr J. A. Lee and decided to take up with the company the suggested tenminute morning "tea-o."
