H.B. HUNT RACES

Final Gallops on Hastings Tfacks THIS MORNING'S WORK

(By «

' For the Hawke's Bay Hunt race j meeting, which takes place on Saturday, the following gallops Were done this morning on the Hastings tracks. The going was first-class, and if anything the tracks were a little fastei than on Tuesday morning. Most of the fast Work was done on the inside grxsa, and where not specitied the gallops occurred on that track. • * * Tiger Gain (G. Shields) and Thalu (T. Yoiing) were aSsoeiated in a working gallop over half a-mile to take ; 52secs. Thala is on the improve, and wheh more seasoned shouid develop into a useful sort. # # • Solaria (J. Forsyth), moving short in front, and Colleen Gain, were tried out together over five furlongs for the latter to always have the measure oi her stable mate in a tick under 65secs. They finished abreast but Colleen Gain was under restraint. # « * On the plough, Blygain (R. Marsh) proved a little too good for Tres Sec (1J. Atkins) over three-quarters of a male in 1.19. Blygain meets the eye as being particuiarly fit. # * # The Resinuous-Unique filly (B. Stowe) had a little too much pace for Mahutai (I. Briggs) in tbeir short sprint. tt * • Seattle (J. Walsh) was v^'. sliowing ' off her wTares when clocked 10 run five furlongs in 67secs. * « • Mon Ace (H. Murray), Slippery (H. Young), and Marching Un (R. Marsh), were all bunched at the end of five i'urlongu run in 65secs. Slippery, on the outside, if anything was going the botter at the final post. • * * Iddo (B. Stowe) caused a mild surprise by running away from Trailer (R. Marsh) from the very commencenient of thefr gallop over seven iurlongs, and leading throughout held a decided advantage at the finish in the i'air time of 1.33. The winner carried a lightweight, but for a hurdler went really wel). • • # Bunfight (P. Atkifis), beacourt (U. Shields), and Kahikatoa (J. Molloy), were in that order at the finish of six furlongs run in 1.17i — very fair time. Bunnght and Seacourt were together untii the last halt-mile, when the i'ormer went to the front from the tiring Seacourt, and passed the winning post two lengths to he good, with a sxmilar distance back to Kahikatoa, but for a maiden Seacourt went faixly well. • « • Buster Brown (L. D. Berry), giving away over three stone, could only get within three lengths of Daryill (Cnllen) in their trial, the last three furlongs of which were run in 39secs. • * • Tommy Atkins (Pilier) and Passion FfUit (H. Callinan) were mates in a working gallop. • • # Helios (P. Atkins) was always well behind Hamarin (H. Callinan) in their gallop over three-quarters of a mile in the very mediocre time of 1.20. Neither impressed. • • • Agog (C. Shields) and Top Tat (C. Thomson) went sent out together for a schoolingj lesson over seven fences, but at the very first Top Hat ran up the obstacle and interfered with his companion who suffered an injury to his near hxnd leg and had to be pulled up. Top Hat continued on his own to run the round in 1.47$. Agog Was nOt so bad walking home, and shouid be recovered by Saturday. • * * Sir Nigel (J. Walsh) not doing his best ran the last half mile of his gallop nicely in 52secs. • • • Wykemist moved freely in a solid two rounds of pace work on the plough and has thrown off the sligiht soreness he had when returxxing from Jis unsuccessful trip to Manawatu at the beginning of the month. • • « Cotsfield did the last six furlongs of his two rounds of pace work in even time. He too strode out in a resolute manner. # - • » Contact (J. Walsh) was half a length in front of Cletrac (Mr G. G. Beat- . son) with Mercian Prince (Mr A. W. W. Symes) a length and a half further back at the end of seven in 1.37. The latter carried their Saturday's jockeys.
