A TRIBUTE
Arnong the tributes paid to Arthur Mahoney, captain of the New Zealand hockey team now touring Australia, and Hawke's Bay's sole representative in that side, was the following eulogy given by & club-mate at the send-off to Mahoney l saw wave after weve of attack meet defeat, As waves from the Rock of Gilbraltar fetreat, When through Time's open door Crystal gazing, I saw The All Blacks in their tour of the Wallabies' land Meet the pick of the Aussies for premiership grand. And who was this rock whero attack spent its forcep Why, oui\Arthur Mahoney, the skipper, of eourse! We have all seen his worth On our own patch of turf And we know in this tour he'U acqult himself well And return with the tales of his victories to tell. Here's a, toasfc lo your health from us all, Arthur Mahoney, May your sliek be as clevcr as somo of your blarney ! May you have a lew With coiqrades all true Yet kuow every joy that's outside oi a bobtle Rigiit through the vast land of the 'bluegum and wattle. May .your tactics confuse evefy enemy trick, , May the ref. i'ail to uotice the back of your stick! And we'd all love to learn That when here you return You've decided your bachelorhood needs grave correction. Oh, make Mahoney with hockey u family connection!
