A WHISPERING CAMPAIGN?
' ' ' Sins of the Tongue," is the title to an editorial in Zealandia, the Catholic weekly ,in which it is said: "To-day, in New Zealand, there are in circulation malicious stories concerning some of tho most prom. inently placed men in the country. That this is so anyone who moves about among the people knows only too well. "In political circles this sort of thing is terined 'a whispering campaign.' It is more dreaded by the average politician than the bitterest open attack. Catholics must be on their guard from hour to hour lo ensure that they do not sin against their neighbours. "Particularly at this time, when gross libels are being circulated against public men, should they remember that, as Catholic citizens, expected to mantain a high moral standard ,they must not give credence to every fantastic allegation which is made, and, eveu more important, that they must refrain from repeatiug sucli slanderous statemeuts as may be ia ekcjhation*'^
