SHANNON, Last Night. A drowning fatality occurred at Shannon about 1 o 'cloek this afternoon. The victim Was Bernard Lawrence Prier, the two-year-old son of Mr, and Mrs. B. Prier, of Old Foxton road. The tragedy took place quite near liis parents' home. Mrs. Prier was gardening at the front of the section, the child being with her, She had oceasion to leave the garden for a short- time and when she teturned Mrs. Prier found the child was missing. A visitor to the home, Mrs. R. Roberts, assisted in the search that was instituted for the infant and she was successful in discovering him in the drain into which he had fallen. At thecspot the drain is eight feet deep and there 3s three feet of Water. Mr. Prier was called and the child recovered, artificial respiration Ifting applied for some time without ava?!. The district eoroner, Mr. G. D. Hamilton, of Levin, will conduct an inquesfc at 10.30 to-morrow morning.
