i (Bv Telegrapb -
AUCKLAND, Last Night. Arguments in favour of the early construction of the proposed Auckland Harbour Bridge were submitted to the acting-Minister of Labour, Hon. P. C. Webb, by a deputation representing Jortli Shore motoring and Labour ik Lerests. It was suggested to the Minister . that this work could w'ell be considered an connection with his plan to fmd work for hundreds of men in the Auckland district now on the unemployment register. • 4 1 would sooner see 700 men creatmg a bridge than remaining on eustenance, ' ' said the Minister. in. reply. He would be glad to discuss it with .Cabi.et. This work had already been (jus* «ussed by Cabinet. They had conterv ■Jated an expenditure of £2,000,000 \ad to consider whether a c'onsiderabl* lertion of that money c-ould not te better spent on land development in tho Auckland district. They had felt that they were not in a position to go on with this project at once. "I do not like the idea of a toll," he added. "If we are to have a bridge let us have a nafcional one that, will be as free to the people as any other route. ' 3
