DUNEDliN, Tlus Day. In the Police Court, Jane Marj Gregg, aged 65, was charged with permitting premises to be used as a common gammg-house by another person and Mary Frances Lord, aged 41 was charged with using the premises as a gammg-house. Detective Hall said that Mrs Lord was the wife of a well-kuown bookmaker. Accused had been known to be acting as her husband's agent. For nine months she had been using Mrs Gregg' s telephone and diningrooms on race days. There was an alarm bell from the front of the house to the dining-room near the telephone. On the second day of the Wellington races detectives, executing a search warrant, found the place locked and pushing up the dining-room window they saw Mrs Lord at a table by the telephone. Detectives found 36 betting slips} totalling £29. The Magistrate saiq that probablj the police surmise was correct tbat Mrs Lord had been used as a c-aniou-Uage by her husbami for befctiug. Mrs Lord was liued £50 and Mrs Grugg £10.
