Waipukurau Party Greeted By Full House

OTANE , Last Night. A full house greeted the concert party of Waipukurau artists who staged a benefit entertainment in the Town Hall in Monday night. A bright and sparkb'ng programme of outstanding merit was presented, and so good were all the artists in their respective roles that it would be difficult to single out any on© for special mention. The large audience ehowed its appreciation in no unstinted manner and it was not possible to satisfy to the full the insistent demand for encores. The frocking was colourful and picturesque, and with the splendid characterisation adopted, gave added effectivencss to all the items. Mrs R. Scott, the producer, is to be congratulated on the quality of the numbers selected and the effects aehieved. Miss G. Major supplied the bulk of the comedy, and with Miss Wiggins fairly "brought down the house" with their 3ketch, "Slimining."Following is the programme, which does not include the many excellent encore numbers Opening chorus, "Look up and Laugb," St. Andrew's Marionette Party; song and chorus, "Over on the Sunny Side/" Miss G. Wiggins and chorus ; song and chorus, "Southorn Moon, Wfaikiki Moon," Miss Gibson and chorus; tap dance, "Looking on the Bright Side," Miss Joan Moran ; comedy item, "Mrs Bridget McSweeney," Miss G. Major; song and chorus, "Going TJp," Miss Wiggins and chorus; sketch, "Slimming," Misses G. Major and Wiggins; full company, in negro song scene — songs, "Alone," and "Your Lovely To Look At," MSss I'leming; trio, Miss King (piano), Mr Uonnelly (violin), Mr Cottrell (cello) ; Spanish number, "La Vida," Miss hTemina and chorus ; songs, "Ross of Picardy,"*and "Cheri," Miss M. f 'lark; comedy item, "At Scbool in Ireland," Miss Major; duet, "A Frown is a Smile Upside Down," Miss Fleming and Mr Moore; story without words, "Eatly in the Morning," Misses G. Major and Wiggins; final, "A Thousand Goodnigbts," full company. Pianiste, Miss M. King. At the conclusion of the concert Mr R, K. White thanked the performers for the most enjoyable evening's entertainment provided, and also the audience for their attendance and appreciation. A hearty vote of thanks to the performers was carried by acclaination. BUpper was served and a couple of hours was happily spent in dancing, Mrs Meta suppiying the music, and Mr R. Langridge playing extras on the pianoraccordeon. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr M. Higgs.
