(By

The ' tracks were in excellent order for this morning's gallops at Hastings, and on Saturday next, the day of the annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Hunt, the racing track should be perfect. Marsh) made easy tlie task of galioping four furlongs in SUsecs., poiutmg to the ex-Chokebore-trained mare being back to something like her best form. She will start in the Tikokino sprint at the week-end. • • • Cletrac (P. Atkins), a greatly-im-proved gelding, moved very freely and iinished full of running in a gaiiop oi a working uature over a uiile. • » • # Top Hat (Zuppereich) aud Agog (C. Shields) were associated iu a sohooliug essay over half-a-dozen fences. 1'or beginners they shaped very well, making iio mistakes. The former is over seveuteen hands. • • • Blue Shirt, whose eorrect weight in the Waitangi Hack is 8.3, and not 8.2, as published, was not galloped> as he has just come back from Wellington, where, on the last day, he ran a fair race. • * *' Cotsfield, who has fuiiy recovered from the few scars obtamed at the Dannevirke meeting, was out doing solid three-quarter paco work. With 'firm going next Saturday the big gelding will be a force .to be reckoned with. Marsyas, his stable eompanion, did light work. He iooks none the worse for his Trentham races. * » * On the piough Journet (A. Griffiths) and Mercian Prince (R. Marsh) were restricted to a working gallop over once round, which occupied 1.46-}. On the same track Shu (AtKins) and Blygain (Marsh) were together all Ihe way over five furlongs in 63|secs., both doing it well. # • • Seattle (J. Walsh), who was not anxious to go" out and do her task, eventually went off at a bound to finally run half a mile in 548605.^ bqt was by no means extended. • • * * Mon Ace (H. Murray) and Marching On (Marsh) got the best of the start over Slippery (H. Young) by a coupie of lengths, and at the end. of half a mile the former palr were about half a leugth in front of Elippery in 52secs. * * Thala and Jacynth were sprintcd dowu the straight, and could not be timed. The former will coutest Ihe Okawa Maiden race on baturuay uexi. tt w # On the plough Tr;es Sec (Atkins) aud T'railer (Marsn) were responsible for a very fair effort wlien registeriug 1.174 for three-quarters of a mile, witn little to choose between the pair at the finish, but if anything Tres toec went siigntly the better. • • * Contact (J. Forsyth) had the measure of Hamarin (H. Callinan) over six rurlongs iu the inoderate time of 1.22, but this track was not as fas't as thu piough. Hamarin went disappomtmgly. # « # Okawa was slightly ahead of Bustor Brown (Atkins) .after galioping five furlongs on the plough in a fraction better than 65secs. Tiie former iooks in All. racing condition. # « * Daryll (L. B'erry), giving away about a stone to Olia (J. Waish), on the plough, was a coupie of lengths ahead in 5isecs. — a fairly good gallop for a novice. * # # . Top Hat (Callinan) and Hunting Cat (Atkins) were given a working gallop over six furlongs, the last five taking 09secs. « # • Passion Fruit (H. Callinan) was always going better than Helios (Atkins) in their six-furlong encounter in 1.20. Passion Fruit went very well, and will have to be eonsidered at the week-end. * # * Pukehou (J. Walsh) was no use to fcjir Nigel (S. Fanning) over six furlongs in 1.19, about the best time of the momintr on this track. # # # Mona Lisa (S.
