Samuel, who has beett lnan ager of the Paeroa brauch of the Battk of NeW Zealand for tbe last Six yeai's, has been appoitlted malxager of the bank's Suva branch. He Will leave New Zealand in about five weeks. Mr L F. G. Milner, M.A., Univereity of New Zealand, and New College, Oxford, has been elected to a Commonwealth Fund fellowship tenable fSr two years at an Amerxcan university. He will study international relations at the University of Californfia. Mr F. W. Beed, of Whangarei, a recognised authority on Duinas, ha? oeen awarded a silver medallion by the French Minister of Fofeign Affairs in fecognition of th© sorviees he has iendered Ffench literature in the Eng-lish-spedking countries. Three years ago Mr Beed was awarded the decoration of Oificier de 1'InstruetiOn Publique for his serviees to Freneh literature.-— PresS Association. Mr H. J. M. AbrahalUi, M.Sc., has ai'x'ived at Melbourne to taka up a posi* tion as eenior demonstrator in the clc partment of natural philosophy at the University of Melbourne. Mr Abrahaiii is well-known at Vietoria University College, Wellington, where he gradttated M.Sc. with second-class honoili'S ili physics in January, 1937. He was a college uominee for a Rhodes Scholatshlp in 1935. While at the college he was ao piitstanding track athlete and hockey playef, aiid he also took a prominent part in the college defence rifle club activitieS. Oolonel A« J. M. Manson 'e resignation from ,the Hastings committee of the Hawke's Bay War Relief Association was accepted with rcgx-et at tho meeting last night. The ehairman, Mr W Hart, while congl'atulatittg ColoiioJ xManson on his appomtment as Sei'geant-at-Arma to the Honse of Bepteseatatives, commented on the very great serviee he had rondered to the War Relief Association and 6n the definite loss to returned soldiers in this district by his transfer to Wellington. Mr F. J. Hull and Mr L. J. Mackersey fully endorsed these remark's and tendered to Colonel Manson the committee 's best wishes for the future.
