Weather and Radio Station on Kermadec Islands N.Z. PARTY'S PLANS

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Hon. F. Jones stated to-day riiat in pursuance of its aviation policy, the Government had decided to send a small party to the Kermadec Islands for the purpose of Carrying out preliminary survey work to enable the establishment of a meteorological and radio station in one of the islands of the group. The party will consist of Messrs J. E. Anderson, Public Works engineer, who will be iu charge, A. H. Edmonds and L. Stanaway, chairmen in tne Public Works Departinent, J. A. Henderson, - sur-veyor of the Lands and Survey Departinent, E. B. Davison% ranger in the Internal Affairs Department, aud V. J. Clinch, radio operator in the Posfc afid Telegraph Department. The primary duty of the party is thoroughly to investigate engineering problems in conn,ecti(m with the establishment of the station, -but advantage will be taken of the eurvey ' party 's visit to carry out cortain other work in which other Government departments are interested, such as determining the geographical position of the group and making a thorough topographical survey, and also the steps necessary under the recent Gazette notice constituting the island as a sanctuary for tEe protection of native flora and fauna. The survey party will be equipped with an emergeney wireless set which will enable it to maintain communication with and obtarln instructions from Wellington as.the work proceeds. The party will- be absent from the Dominion for three to four months.
