(To the Editor) Sir. — In your report of the prosucution of Newman Bros., Ltd., and their drlver, it is set out that luspector Senipk- stated that tlie l'are from Te Aute to Hastings wa* 2/6, and that the wife of the owner ot an oppositiori service had been ° eharged L>'-. 'i'his is an error. What Inspector Semple did say was that the defendant company "s authorised ture was 3/6. and that tlie faro cbarged in this instance was 2, 6 Tlds was borue out by the feceipt held by the Inspector. I had obtained a receipt by saying that I was a nurse, and also that the fare oollected was in excess of that fixed as the charge for the opposition seryice. Neither of these statements is correct. I did not say I was a nurse, and the fare cbarged m.e was the same as tbat fixed for the opposition serviee and was 1/- below tjbat fixefl for defendant.— Yours, etc,, (Mrs.) KATHLEEN MURPHY. The report of the case stated that the fare frpm Te Aute to Hastings was 2/6 and that the amount col'ected was 2/-. These figures should have been 3/6 and respectively. — Ed. H.B.H-T,
