County Supports Application For Remissions HOSPITAL BOARD'S BURDEN Support to the representations of tfie Hawke's Bay Hospital Board and other local bodies, including;the Hastings Borough Council and the Havelock North Town Board, for a Temission of the interest and principal on the earthqnake loans is to be accorded by the Hawke's Bay County Council as one of the contributing bodies to the Hospital Board finances. The position, from the viewpoint Of the local bodies concerned, was outlined by Mr. C. Lassen, who said that the demand was quite unexpected and that no provision had been made for ■uch payment. . "We are the laTgest- contributing body to the Hospital Board, and I feel that we have to consider our ratepayers, who wiU be placed in a very unfair position if the board has to pay this amount this year,-" said the chairman, Mr. F. B. Logan. He pointed out that the council had already decided upon the Tate to be struck and would be placed in an awkward position if tho hospital levy were unexpectcdly increased. "i think it will be placing our ratepayers in an uni'air position in having ib pay whcn they tvere not expectmy to Itnve to pay auy Interest on the loan, •* ' he said, when moving that the council should make a protest agaiust the Hospital Board 's being called to pay the interest this year, and should generally support the local bodies concerned in their representations to have the interest eharges remitte^ altogether.
