MAORIS ON SUSTENANCE
"Not the Slightest Douht," Says Kh Logan "There is not the slightest doubt about there still heing a number of Maoxis on sustenance in the, county at present," said the chairman, Mr. F. B. Logan, at the meeting of *he Hawke s Bay Co.unty Council this morning, when brief mention was made of the discussion on this point at the last meeting of the council and the subsequent denial by Mr. J. S. Jessep, East Coast Commissioner. Mr. Logan apparently was not aware that Mr. Jessep had made any statement, for he expxessed" surprise when infoiEned by Mr. E. H. Beamish of this fact. , "Surely he must have been fuliy aware of it," said Mr. Logan. "Why, Mr. Bromley and Mr. Hunter were very concerned and really woxried ahout it when at the conf erence of local bodies." Several members agree'd that there were Maoris pn sustenance not being given work, but no decision was reached.
