MARLBOROUGH BEAT NELSON
-Press Asaociation.)
(By Telegraph-
BLENHEIM, Last Night. In a game as even as the scores indicate, Marlborough avenged their earlier defeat by Nelson by winning the return match by 14 to 13. The weather was fine and the ground hard and this meant fast football. The action constantly varied between the backs and forwards with Marlborough enjoying a territorial advantage and showing superiority on attack in the first spell. Their condition failed in the second half of the final session, when Nelson provided some entertaining chain passing. Tries for Marlborough were scored by M. MacDonald, Payne and Mellish. Kotua converted one and Mellish .kick;ed a penalty goal. The pick of the ; Marlborough forwards were MacDonald, iR. Woolley and Wilson, and of the jbacks .O'Rourke, Mellish and Kotua. ; Drummond and Craig were conspicuous in the Nelson pack and Costello, Brinsden and Busch were the best backs.
