REGENT THEATRE
"TOP OF THE TOWN" Doris Nolan, portraying * millionairess with a xush of rattlety-bang ideas to the head, gives George Murphy, swing band leader, the benefit of her inexperience iii cxeating a show for a new night club. This club i£ the Moonbeam Eoom, 100 storeys in tfie sky, a place that glitterjj with splendour and provides the -background for the important action in "Top of the Town," wliich screens at the Eegent to-night. Gertrude Niesen, radio t'avourite and star of the Follies, sings four of the songs. They are " Where Are Youf" '%Iame it on the Eumba^" "Top of the Town!' and the swing rhytbm finale number, "Jamboxee." Thrce more songs are featured by Ella Logan and other members of the compauy, "I Feel That Foolish Feeling Coming On," "There Axe No Two Ways About It" and ' 'Fireman, Save my Child. " The songs were composed by Jimmy McHugh aod Harold Adamson» The comedy of "Top of the Town" is the strong point of the offering. The laugh situations- are developed by ten comedians, each with a style of humour all his own. Henry Armetta, Mischa Auer, High Herbert, Gregory Eatoff raise the funny business to a new height. Then the Three bailors, Jason, Eobson and Blue, carry >n from there. They are one of the daftiest crews of buffloonatics thft ever clowned on the screen. To mahe things complete, Ello Logan turns on h?r humorous headlights when she singa her offerings. The settings are on a lavish scale, exceptional even for Hollywood.
