British Empire's Cotton Output Shows Increase

MANCHESTER. — British Empire cot-' ton production, excepting India, exceeded all previous roeords during 1936, says ' the annual report of the British Cotton Growing Association. Production amounted to 752,800 bales, of which the Uganda protectorate was responsible for the biggest share whilo the Soudan was a good socond. In most other territories, the report says, climatic conditions were far from good and poor crops were liaryested. "Confidence is replacing *the pessimism of the past few years," adds the report "and weighty opinion is not wanting that even a portion of our forcign export cotton trade can be regained. The outlook is distinetly more promising- than it has been for some years. ' '
