AUCKLAND, This Day. "I am just a travelling student, my objeet being to leam," said Dr. Hans ; Luther, former Chancellor of Germanv, and until lately Ambass'ador. to the United States, after liis arriva'l by the Mariposa on a leisurely return to Germany from Washington. In"" discussing aviation, Dr. Luther said he had flown the equivalent of twice roimd the world, having been the first German Minister to use tliis method o'f travel. Remarkable developmcnts wero oceurring in aviation, and he tliought that the futurc of tho airsliip would not be prejudiccd by Ihe recent terrible disaster to tlio Hindenburg. Alhough flights across the Atlantic had be.en stopped, tliat was ,to cnalilo improvcnients to be made. "Tliero is a firm will to go on," ho said. "and carefulness will bc the keynote. " Before lea.ving Wasjimgton, he said he interx'iewed the American aTiation autliorities, who wefe working in closesb co-operation -with a view to a future Atlantic service. Dr. Luther paid a wonderful tribute to the Ameri cmi people for their sympathy and heroism at the time of the Hindenburg disaster. Within four hours of the burning of the airship he arrived at the sceen by air, and _he ^as deeply impressed by all tliat was dono for the sufferers. About two-tliirds of those who were on tho Hindenburg were still living. Discussing Germany, Dr. Luther said that tlie population had increased by 1,6000,000 last year as the Tesult of births. "That is more than the total population of New Zealand," commented Dr. Hellenthal, German Consul to New Zealand, who had eome from Wellington to meet Dr. Luther.
