Harbour Rate Levy of £84 Imposed BOARD'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taradale Town Board was held last night. Present : Messrs J. Williamson (chairman), W. H. C. Howard, F. O, Anderson, J. A. Wilkinson, G. Webb ahd J. Gilmore. The Kapier Harbour Board nctified tbat the rate ievied for the +o wn district was £83 18/7. An offer by tbe Hawxe s Bay Rugby Union for tlie Taradale Park for the current playmg season was accepied. The. Local Government Loans Board acknowledged receipt of the board's application for sanction to raise £750 as a loan for public swimming-baths. The clerk and overseer, Mr W. G. Jarvis? reported as follows: — Drams: Portion of the drain in V.'averly road was cleared and deepened, and notice was seryed on an occupisr to abate a nuisance caused througli a defective septic tank. Drams in White street and the new drain connecting with Rymer's were attsnded to Relief Work ( Water kouse street Extension); This job was commeneed cn the 29tb ult., and steady progress has been made. The work consists of grub- • bing out old trees, noxious weeds, etc., removing large sheds, erection of 26 chains of fencing, ' construction of 13 chains of new road and a eoncrete culvert over Taipo creek, widening 16 chains of U'Dowd road, and splayingback corners. The work, which will be a decided improvement to the town district, is being done by subsidised labour. River Reserve : fcjubsidy has been provided to carry out further improvements to 'the grounds.- A number of dangerous poplars will be grubbed out and* the area ievelled off. Fences will be repaired, noxious weeds cleared, and portion of bank removed to improve the entrance.
