R. A. Whitcombe Plays Perlectly AT HEAD OF LIST

Whitcombe (Britain), who is leading, played perfect golf deepite four putts lipping the hole. His 70 is a record for the lengthened course. C. A. Whitcombe holed three 30-foot putts, also a chipshot. With the field reduced from 141 to 47 a British victory is now expected. Six Americans are included in the first 17 but the Americans'' failure to reach expected heights with, the elimination of Sarazen and Manero has been the sensation of the meeting. Other prominent competitors eliminated include Perry, Kirkwood, Barton and the amateur champion Sweeney. Locke is the only amateur to suTvive.
