Coroner Suggests Special > Marking Lights EVIDENCE AT INQUEST
( By Telegraph-
BLENHEIM, Last Niglit. The conclusion that the aceident had oecurred owing to an error of judgment on the part of both drivers in esti- 1 mating the distance between the vehicles was arrived at by the eoronei in an inquest into the death of Frank Donaldson and his son Ian, who were kill^d in a collision between a motorear driven by Donaldson and a motorlorry driven by Frank Albert Moreland on a bridge on the Wairau Valley road on the evening of June 19. The coroner udded that he felt he should once again draw the attention to the desirability of a regulation making it compulsoTy for all lorries to carry niarker lights at night indicating their overall width. Had such lights been on the lorry on this occa&ion, the doeeaeed, who had the reputation of being a careful drivar, would have taken oxtreme care when approaching tho bridge to make way for the lorry, luiowing by the lights that it was a lorry coming toward him. Death, in the coroner 's opinion, bad been caueed by the overhanging edge of the lorry 's platform striking the dcceased on the head.
