Mr and Mrs F. B. Logan, Kereru, have returned from a short holiday iu Australia. Messrs Ss and H. Anllersen, and Mrs S. Andersen and family, of Ngamoko, have returned from a holiday spent with the latter's relatives in Auckland. The Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, left Napier this morning by the express for Wellington after a tour of northern Hawke's Bay Mr W. G. Jones leaves Napier on lhursday next on transfer to the Public Works Department, Wellington. Mr A. M. Harvey-Sm.ith, of the Public Works Department, Napier, leaves early next week on transi fr to Wairoa. Mrs H. J. Grieve, of Duke. street, Hastings, left for Timaru during the week to visit her parents. and will be away for a month.
Mrs Lal. Jury, of Hastings, has entered the Hastings Memorial Hospital for an operation and her many friends will be glad to learn that she is now progressing favourably. The Hon. W. E. Barnard, M.P., and Mrs Barnard, have left on a short visit to Auckland and Wellington. They will return to Napier at the end of next week. Senior-Sergfeant Michael Flanagan, of Auckland, has been promoted to sub-inspector of police from July 1, according to a Gazette notice issued last night. — Press Assn. The appointment of Major-General Sir Andrew Russell as honorary colonel of the Wellington and East Coast Mounted Rifles was notified in & Gazette last night. — Press Assn. Messrs A. E. KnoWles and A. J. Severn have been appointed as producers' representatives on the New Zea' land Poultry Board, according to a Gazette notice issued last night. — Press Assn. Messrs A. S. K. Cotterill, Havelock North, C. E. Proctor, Hastings, Mrs J^ Archer Absolom, Rissington, and Miss Janet Groome, Te Onepu, Otane, were to-day elected members of th« Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society. Dr. Alistair Thomson, formerly of Christchurch and at present on the staff of the New Plymouth Hospital, will leave Auckland by the Niagara on July 13 for England, via Canada. He will take up a position in Birmingliani. Messrs L. P. Clark, W. B. Higbet, D. G. Phillips. H. A. Small and K. R. Thomas are New Zealanders who were approved in the subjeets of anatomy and physiology at the recent first examination for the Diploma of Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, England. 'Mr R. R. Beauchamp, a sheepfarmer .of New Zealand, has been appointed the principal of the Fairbridge Farm School at Molong. There were 50 applicants fromi New Zealand, England and Australia, states a cable from Sydney. Mr A. D. Jackson, M.A., M.Sc., of the staff of the Timaru Boys' High School, has been advised of his election as a Fellow of the Royal Geo gjraphical Society of Great Britain foi exploration and mountaineering in tho Dart-Barrier and Olivine Ranges of Western Otago durtag the seasons ot 1934, 1935, 1936 and 1937. Under his leadership parties have discovered, traversed, climbed and mapjoed an area of country containing several glaciers, many peaks and various river systems covering an area of approxunately 500 squaro niiles. The maps of the party have now heen accepted by the Survey Department of New Zealand.
