WELLINGTON, Last Night. With a view to preventing stud merino sheep imported into New Zealand from Australia being re-exported elsewhere, the New Zealand Government has agreed jfco co-operate with the Anstralian authorities. This statement was made by the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. Lee Martin) when referring tonight to a recent cable message from Sydney stating that the opinion was expressed at the last annual conference of the Graziers Association of New South Wales that the effectiveness of tho embargo on the export of merino sheep from. Australia was endangered by the sale of sheep to New Zealand. "Re-expor.tation is carefully guarded ^againsl, ". said the Ministor, "and from mquiries made it has. been ascertainod that in no case have Australian-brea sheep be'en re:exported 'from New Zealand. The Government- has the co-oper-ation of the stock'and station agents who are principally concerned in the importatiou of sheep from Ahstralia, and it is quite clear that the eorrespondent rcf erred to in the cable is not conversanfc -with the position. Recently 250 merino sheep were esported to Japan, but these sheep were obtained from a flock Which has uot had any frcsh Australian blobd introdueed into it for many years past, and apart from this shipment the export of" merino Sheep i'rom New Zealand is of very smaluonient. The officers of my Depari .nent will continue te. keep a closc watch on the position and the Graziers Association of Now South Wales need have no fear that 1 Australian-bred merino sheep will be re-exported from . his Dominion, steps having been taken .o adequately safeguard against this pbssibllity," * - '
