Former Union Secretary Pleads Guilty

AUCKLAND, This Day. Until Teeently the seeretary of the Auckland Drivers and Related Trades Union, Charles Gordpn Lindsay, aged 43, xnarried, was charged in the Police Court to-day with ■ stealing sums of money totalling £60 16//7, the property of the union. The president of the union, Arthur Bell, said in evidence that till June, -1936, Lindsay was employed or organiser; from then until February, 1937, he was employed as acting-secretary at £5 a week, and until May last as secretary at £6 a week. Witness detailed a payment made by him to Lindsay whieh was not entered in the books. Evidence of irregularities disclosed by the books was given by an office assistant, Dorothy' McKenzie, these including the use of a printed duplicate of the office Teeeipt book. The police said that when arrested at Ruataniwha Lindsay made a statement admitting the theft. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sen? tence.
