A* Christie & Sons' New Premises Messrs A. Christie and Sons Ltd., of Russell Strcet, Hastings, have recently acquired a new factory to meet the demands of their growing business. The factory is Situatecl in Heretaunga sfreet, and covers approximately soine 6000 square feet oi' floor space. The factory is iridefed a mo'del one in that e'verything is done in a most mettiodical manhef. Order, preeision and aCctiraey is obtained by the lay-out of the whole floor, while the men work uiider the most congenial conditiona possible. Light, fresh-air and warmth, with accessibility to every requiremont, save the men . much unnecessary movement and irritation, so that they are free to give all their cOncentfafed attention to th'eif work. This nattirafly means good wOrkmanship whicTi is thC aim! oi the direCtors of the flriri. The property on which the factory stands extends from Heretaunga street to Qu'een sfreet. The Q'ueen street entrSnCe leads ihto the timber drying and cUring yard where are built large timber raeks securely fenced and locked, and under the direct control of the manager of the factory who personally selects all woods to be used in the raaking of Christie 's guaranteed furniture. No soft woods or unseasoned woods are used for f'Urniture in the factory; in faet, nothing but the best pro'curable is used. When the wood is chosen for a speeial piece of furniture or suite, etC., it is given to an experienced machinist who produces every piece according to the measurements supplied to kim by the manager direct. Wlren this has been stackea .and l'urlker prepared for a pei'iod, it is thon given to an oxpert craftsmau who iias his own bench room to quietly put all together with out hurry or bustle. Thon the work is passed on to the polishing room, a room in which an artist would find pleasure in working. There iri this adequatcly ventiiated room fhe final toucli is given. Thus, behind all Christies' fiirniture ife is known there are the right conditions for its production in the new factory. To get tho best results they havo done all those tkings to give every craftsman the scope and atmosphere in which to give of his best, for Christies-' aim is to otfer the best to their clients.
