PALMERSTON N., Last Night. A fine of £100 was imposed in the Magistrate's Gour't tb-day bn Norman Amold Dalzell, tt barifian, who Wtts charged with carrying on business as a bookmakdr. The poliCC stated thttt the defendant had been fined £50 in 1935 for a similar offence. Stephen Best, fqr betting with Dalzell, was fined 10/-. The prosecutions were the result of a visit by a detective to the Carlton Hotel Ofl Ffiday, Taurifb Patrick HiCkey wttB fifled £50 on a charge of bookmaking, he having been caught by a detective in the public bar of the same hotel on the following day. The detective said that Dalzell admitted being warned by the lieensee of instant dismissal if he ifldUlged in bettihg.
