£28,803 So Far Spent on The Ngaruroro
To date £28,803 3/1 has been expended on the Ngaruroro river-coutrol scheme. The principal work undortaken has been the construction of both the north and south banks, and in thCse fearthworks a total of 133,774 cubic yards of material has been de- i posited. Beporting to the Hawke 's Bay Rivers Board yesterday on the progress of the work earried out for the four weeks ended June 15, the enginefer, Mr. G. Rnchfort, stated that during the period under review 18,197 yards of material had been placcd on thc south bank, making a total of 96,^82 yards to dato. On the north bank a total of 37,192 yaTcls had been placed. Tho eost of this work was 1/11.3 a cubic yard. A start had been oiadG, he added, with tho bank through Mrs. Orbell's property, and 1000 cubic yards had beon plaeed thorc. To date 90 c.hains of fenciug had been earried oul at au avwrago cost of 2-J/6 a chain. Tlio low stop-bank at Pakowhai had boen completed for 18 ehaiti9 at the uortherti end. At Pakowhai the board 's exeavator had shifted 1710 yards at a cost of 8d a cubic yard. At Waitangi 1942 yards had been shifted at a cost of 7d a yard
