Motorist Fined on Two Charges oi Speeding LICENCE SUSPENDED Caught speeding twice on one day, and not holding a driver's licence.. Donald James MacF'arlane. of Hastings farmer, was fined in all £5 10/by Mr J. Miller, S, M. in the Napier Magistrate's vourt this morning, and his licence was snspendedi for three months. The Magistrate commented that after one warning defendant should not have driven. fast again. '"All of the offences occurred on the same date," said Traffic Inspector J. H. R. Semple, of the Transport Department. "At U.45 a.m. on the day of a race meeting at Napier Park I saw defendant jn the vicinity of Taradale. I cbecked his speed from the Taradale Post Office and through the township at 45 mileg an hour, and he slowed down to 40 miles an hour at the bend near the police station and maintained that speed across an interseotion. "When asked for his licence he said that he had one, and subsequently prodnced one dated the next day. On the saine night 1 saw him again on the main Napier-Palinerston, North State highway. There were three cars in a line, at about 11.45 p.m, with myself forming tbe third. Defendant was making persistent efforts to pass a big car in front of him, and in one case put a. car travelling in the opposite direction well off the road. "He passed tbe other car, entered the ^Napier borough at 50 miles qn hour, and passed the lirst interseption at 45 miles an hour. I then stopped him." On the flrst charge of speeding a fine of £5 with 10/- costs was imposed, on the second defendant's licence. was suspended ' for three months, and on the third charge, that of not possessing a licence, he was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs. A. R. McGaffin, whom the inspector caught speeding on a motor-cycle at Clive, was fined £5, with 10/- costs, and an order was made endorsing hi» licence. Explaining that -his accelerator had jainmed, William James Dennis Allen, Of Napier, truck driver, was fined £4, with 10/- costs, for driving at a dangerous Speed across the intersection of Dalton and Dickens streets. The borough traffic inspector, Mr A. M. Oliver, estimated the speed at 40 miles an hour. Harry Patriek Gillespie, of Waikare, was fined £1 10/-, with 10/- costs, for failing to keep to tbe left of tbe road. The prosecution was a sequel to an accident near Waikare in wbich a' service car, whicb bad pulled over to avoid defendant, went over a 12-foot bank. Defendant had not known that the car had gone over and drove on, returning Avhen he was informed of the occurrence. The Bench remarked,that it was in defendant's favour that he returned, as it would have been hard to traee hdm. John Bruce Hitchman, of Port Ahuriri, assistant wharfinger, was fined 10"/- with 10/- costs, for riding an unlighted bicyole at night. R. Hulford, of Port Ahuriri, postman, was fined 5/-, with 10/- costs, for riding a bicycle 011 the footpath. For operating a motor-car without a warrant of fitness, Bartholomew James O'Rourke, of Napier, meehanic, was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs. George Foote, of Bay View, was fined 10/-, with 10/-, costs, ior ridiug a bicycle at uigbfc without ft lighfc.
