(By Telegr.aph-

PALMERSTON N., Last Night. The Manawatu Racing Club's winter meeting was held at Awapuni on Saturday in delightfully iine weather and there was a very big attendance of racing enthusiasts, the totalisator investments being £17,524, as compared with £13,160 10/- for the _ corresponding meeting last year, the incerase being £4853 10/-. The course was in wonderfully good order and the r. bcould not have been better for winter racing. The Awapuni Steeplechase was won by Mr E. C. Haddock's Marton-train-ed gelding, Brigadore, which jumped faultlessly and finished very solidly. The Hunt Cup was won by Mr R. Richardson's Awapuni-trained gelding, Tangled, who fenced splendidly and was the winner a long way from home. The open events on the flat were won by Taitoru, that class performer from Opunake, and by the Awapuni-trained Catalague, who rewarded his admirers with the only double-figure dividend of the day.
