Old Manawatu River Bridge .

PALMEIISTON N., Last Night. . . The old wooden structure which span_ned the Manawatu River at the foot of Fitzlierbert Avenue and was the gateway /to Palmerston North from the south over a long. period of years, has disappeared ,the work of demolishing the structure having now been completed. Nearly 250,000 -feet of sound ironbark and totara timher, the latter having been originally pit-sayrn at Aokautere and raftod down to the' site, have been obtained from the old bridge. The concrete supporting cylinders were blasted away to bring them down to river level.
