(Received 3, 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, July 2. The Wimbledon centre court was crowded for 'the men's singles final. Both Budge and von Cramm staTted at top speed but. von Cramm captured Budge's opening service and, finding bis length sooner, led 3 — 1. Budge, however, then found touch and, scoring with magnifieent passing shots, won five games in a row for set. _ The German found Bndge's speedy dTiving and volleying too difflcult to counter. The American led 2 — 0 in- the second sct, having thus won seven games in succession. Von Cramm also found Budge 's kicking service difficult to handle but evened at 3 — 3. ^ Budge then again produced fierce services and passing shots to take the ®Qt. In the third set von Cramm apparently l'ost much of his speed and resilience. He was unable to reply to the American 's greater strength but fought hafd, several games going to deuce. Budge had three match points at 6 — 2 but won the final game. only after four deuces. Budge won the match because of his greater speed, forcing von Cramm to make his strokes quieker than he likes. The match lasted 63 minutes and was one of the fastest of reeent finals. Budge achieved the remarkable feat of going through a championship tournament with the loss of only one set. Hughes and Tuckey rattled through their match with Menzel and Hecht at a terrific pace, devastatingly killing many weak lobs by Menzel who was sadly out of form. The other semi-flnal men's doubles was one of the flnest doubles ever played in the championships. The Germans were generaUy dominant in the fiTst and second sets in which they produced many brilliant volleya. Budge and Mako then rallied strongly and serving and smashing with great efiect won a spectacular match in which there were many miraculous recoveries by both- sides. MEN'S DOUBLES "Semi-finals. G.
