Wallace's Good Exhibition oi Free Batting RACE AGAINST TIME • (Received 3, 9.40 a.m.) TAUNTON, July 2. The New Zealanders won the game against Somerset as a result of another wonderful exhibition of free batting by Wallace. New Zealand required nearly two runa a minute to win. Hadlee was enterprising till he ran himself out. Tindill was just opening out when he played over a good one. Carson was again dismissed by a catph in slips. Wallace gave a dazzling display, scoring at express speed. He hit seven fours and two sixes ineluding one out of the ground in the first 50, and altogether eight fours and three sixes. Lamason, although aggressive when the opportunity offered, wisely let his more dashing partner take most of the bowling. The p&ir added 100 in 40 minutes after tea. New Zealand won by seven wickets with nearly balf an hour to spare. Somerset' s seoond innings was distinguished by a patient century by the left-hander Lee and another great exhibition of sustained pace by Cowie. Another feature was the brilliant catching behind the wickets by Tindill. Cowie bowled nobly. At lunch his figures were reading 21, 4 , 43, 4 against the top batsmen on a perfect pitch. Wallace added another to his collection of scalps of run outs from cover. Good catches were made by Dunning in the slips and Carson at long field. Tindill also made two fine efforts on the leg pide, ineluding one in which he had to dash across for several yards. Scores : — SOMERSET. First Inningis 254 Second Innings.
