Australians Defeated In Men's Doubles WOMEN'S SEMI-FINALS

(Eeceived 2, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 1. The Wimbledon tennis tournament continued. In the women' s singles semi-final Miss Jedrzejowska' s supreme steadiness and forceful driving eelipsed Miss Marble' s versatility, which, however, was rnarred by erratio periods. Miss Round, the title-holder in 1934, easily defeated Miss Mathieu and mad© ouJy two errors in the second set in which she Jost only five points. Bromwich and Sproule were unable to counter the Americans* vigorous game in the men's doubles, and although the Australians wero outmatched by more experienced and versatile opponents, they iought every stroke, Von Cramjn and Henkel entered the semi-final, defeating the British pair, who are training as prospeetive Davis Cup players. The Germans were detinitely dominant, especially in their overhead play. Hughes and Tuckey's deferffc of the Japanese was characterised by olever net volleys and the vigorous services of the Englishmen. Hughes and Tuckey meet Menzel and Hecht in the semifinal , in which von Cramm and Henkel play' Budge and Mako. The matches wili he more wteresting as all will represent teams engaged in the Davis Cup. Eesults: — MEN'S DOUBLES. Fourth Bound. Hughes and Tuckey defeated Nakano nad Yamagishi, 6 — 2, 6—2, 6 — 2. Henkel and von Cramm defeated Hare and Wilde, 6 — 4, 4 — 6, 6 — 3, 7 — 5. Budge and Mako defeated Bromwich and Sproule, 6 — 2, 7 — 5, 6 — 8, 6 — 2 WOMEN 'S SINGLES. Semi-finals. Miss Jedrzejowska defeated Miss Marble, 8 — 6, 6 — 2; Miss Eound defeated Miss Mathieu, 6- — 4, 6 — 0. MIXED DOUBLES. Fifth Round. Prenn and Miss Dearman defeated Yamagishi and Miss Nuthall, 6 — 2, 9 — 7. Mako and Miss Jedrzejwoska defeated Tinkler and Miss Lumb, 6 — 1, 6 — 2. Semi-final. Budge and Miss Marble defeated Mako and Miss Jedrzejowska, 6 — 3, 6—2. WOMEN 'S DOUBLES. Fourth Eound. Miss Dearman and Miss Ingram defeated Miss Eound and Miss Heeley, 9—7, 7—5. Miss Andrus and Miss Henrotin defeated Miss McOstrick and Miss Saunders, 6—2, 7— —3. Mrs King nad Miss Pittman defeated Miss James and Miss Stammers, 6 — 1, 7—5.
