WELLINGTON, Last Night. By an almost unanimous resolution a mqeting of over a kundred members of tke Wellington Taxi Proprietors' and Owners' Association to-night decided to form a co-operative taxi company in Wellington. Tke constitution and articles of association were approved, a provisional directorate set up and tke company proceeded, to allotment. Tke constitution is stated to be wide enougk to take every taxi proprietor Under its wing, giving an adequate return to every taxi operator and an adequate service to tke public. The company aims at kaving a unified telephone system and oue brand. Tke meeting decided tkat teptesentations be m&dh'to the Govefnment tkat it bring the taxi business under tke Transport Licensing Act. Tke Oity Council, if it Were appointed tke licensing autkority under that Act, would kave wider powers than under tke Municipal Corporations Act. Tke taximen have been prompted to make tkis move by a repOrt of tke taxi and totyu carrying committee of inquiry, wkich sttggested tkat they should Udjust their relationships to each Otker. Tke City Council by-laws are designed to regulate tke relationskfp between taxi operator* and tke public, but tke Transport Licensing Act would, it is held, provide machinery for the regulation of the relationskip of each taxi operator to tke other taxf op orators by widening tke powers of tke City Council. Tke meeting passed a resolution expressing appreciation of the sympathy and interest of the Minister of Transport, through wkose efforts the committee of inquiry xnto the problems of taxi-Owners was set up. _ -
