A black cat gave the ' warning and saved the lives of twelve people when fire broke out recently at a house let out as flats in Richborne-terrace, Sotith Lambeth, S.W. (London, Eng.). Jock, the cat, was asleep in an ann chair in has master's •bedroom when tho out--break oceurred. He junped from the arm cbair on to the bed, and, clawing the eiderdown, aroused Mr Ceci] Roberts aud his wife. Mr Roberts l'ound fou'r yards of the ceiling above him red hot. He got his wife out of the room, awakened the landlady, Mrs Alice Mortirner, a widow, aged 60, and then ran from room to room rousing its other occupants.
