FROZEN ROAD SURFACES
Many Accidents Occur in Taranaki NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Exceptionally severe frosts in Taranaki have resulted in irausual condibious and a number of accidents. I skidded and struck Mr Taylor. knocking him 30ft. down a guHy. For the remainder of the day a constable had to te stationed at the spot to warn motorists. Many other accidents occurred oii the dangerous road surfaces. A car driven by Dr. W. T. Simimons, Patea, overturned near Hawera, but the driver escaped uninjured. Two women were severely cut when two cars containing wedding guests skidded on a frozen road dear Eltham. Oue car overturned. Three cars, a truck, and a motor-cycle came to grief at the Otakeho bridge approaches, which were rendered very dangerous. An unusual sight was the frozen surface of a laige lake in King Edward Park, Hawera. This has never occurred beiore Members of the Mount Eg>mont Alpinc Club skied along the roads and do n!i the frozen grassy solpes of small hills.
